Welcome to Nova Scotia Backpackers

The South West Nova UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is home to 5(!) hostels, giving you the opportunity to see all the best this unique area has to offer. Our members offer friendly service and will do their best to make your trip extraordinary. We all offer a fully equipped shared kitchen and of course common living areas are also part of the deal. Most rooms are spacious dorm-style, although many of us do have a private room available. Rooms are basic, bathrooms are usually shared. Board games, bbq's and bicycle rentals are some of the extras you might find.

What you can expect: A clean, comfortable and safe place to rest your head at a budget price.

Kejimkujik N.P. - Paradise of Lakes

Kejimkujik National Park, or Keji, is the only inland National Park in the Maritimes. It is a unique area of rolling hills and lakes and forms the core of the South West Nova UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. With unique flora and fauna found nowhere else in the world, and ancient native petroglyphs, Keji is a truly special place on this planet.

Bay of Fundy - Highest Tides in the world!

It is impossible to talk about the Bay of Fundy without mentioning its awe-inspiring tides. The forces of these tides are equal to the output of 250 nuclear power stations. It is so powerful that the Fundy tides actually MOVE the entire mainland of Nova Scotia! The highest tide ever recorded was a huge 17(!) meters between ebb and flow at Burntcoat Head in the Minas Basin of the Bay of Fundy. It is these tides combined with the shape of the bay that make for such a rich ecosystem. In biodiversity the Bay of Fundy actually compares to the Amazon Rainforest!

Lunenburg UNESCO World Heritage Site

Lunenburg has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for good reason. It is one of only 2 such sites in Canada, the other being Quebec City. Downtown is ofcourse home to one of the best museums of Nova Scotia: the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. Lunenburg is also home to many art studios and galleries, a great opportunity to spend an afternoon hunting for the perfect souvenir or that perfect gift. Besides the beautiful downtown with its traditional and colourful houses Lunenburg and area has a lot more to offer though.
